So my secret is out.

You're probably thinking, "What secret?" This secret. Even though it's been one of the top 5 things on my brain at any given time since June, and I've meant to blog about it over and over again, I've been quite lazy with posting lately, so here you go. Now it's out and I don't have to use fancy custom filters to keep it a secret.

I've been taking lessons on the flying trapeze.

Part of me still wanted to keep that a secret, because I still want it just to be mine, but it was just getting too hard. I don't want to share it with anyone, but it's become such a large part of my life that keeping it from my close friends was too much trouble. I had planned on telling people in time for our IFW (Intensive Flying Worskshop) show on November 9, so it was just a matter of time anyway.

But yes, I have been taking lessons since June 16th, but only recently quite regularly. So far I have only taken 13 classes, so I'm still quite a n00b. Everyone in my IFW is more more advanced than I am, but I think that has helped me push myself farther. Lately it's been getting frustrating because I feel like I haven't done anything right in weeks, and I am struggling with my swing so much... but I'm not going to get into that now. This week things will go better.

I am completely head-over-heels in love with the trapeze. I'm addicted, obsessed, infatuated. I think about it all the time, and wish I could fly every single day (though I think I would literally fall apart if I tried). There have been times where my muscles have been so sore I didn't think I'd be able to get out of bed. My hands have been ripped, calloused, and ripped over again. I've had some of the scariest bruises I've ever seen on my legs, arms, feet, and hands. But I love it more than anything I've ever done before. And I love the people I've met there. Seriously, I don't think it's normal to have so much affection for people I've only known for such a short time, but I love them. They're all wonderful people and I think part of the reason I am so crazy about this sport. So now that the secret is out, expect lots more gushing about trapeze on a regular basis.

If you are on facebook you can see a video that onetimebeloved took of me here. But I leave you with a picture of my first knee hang:

I'd like to say that I've stopped making retarded looking faces while I fly, but I'm pretty sure I haven't. So much other blogging to catch up on, but at least this is off my chest. Later, skaterz.

WOW that is so super awesome cool I'm so incredibly jealous holy fuck I want to fly it'd be like being a superhero or just, you know, flying and where the hell do you take trapeze lessons and do you need upper body strength because I don't have any and do you have to think happy thoughts like Peter Pan or and I wanna fly!
Oct. 16th, 2008 03:12 pm (UTC)
For the flying trapeze it's not as much upper body strength as you'd think, because so much of it is timing and physics, using the momentum you've built up from the swing, and doing tricks at moments of weightlessness. It is a workout though!! I take them at a trapeze school in Boston, that's actually in a furniture store! It's so random. lol

AHH THAT. IS. SO. COOL. I don't think we even have classes/facilities/teachers for that here.

It's a very good (now not a) secret! (:
Oct. 16th, 2008 03:14 pm (UTC)
Eee, thanks! I don't think I'll ever be able to live somewhere where I don't have access to a trapeze rig again.
Oct. 15th, 2008 07:37 pm (UTC)
Wow! Just wow! That is SUCH a wonderful and amazing thing! And I'm not just talking about the fact that you are a trapeze artist. It's the fact that you've found something you love to do so much that you miss it when you're not doing it. I think it's fantastic and how cool is it that it's the trapeze!
Oct. 16th, 2008 03:18 pm (UTC)
:D Thank you! I am so worried that it's going to somehow get ripped away from me now. I was never terrified before of like becoming crippled or handicapped, now it's such a huge fear because I'm like, "What if I can't do trapeze anymore?!"

Oh. My. God.

I am SO jealous. And impressed! And jealous!

pretty sure trapeze flyers are the only people who glorify in their bruises and battle wounds and skin tears :)

oops sorry that was me ^
Oct. 16th, 2008 03:02 pm (UTC)
Haha dork. And yeah, we're like, "Check out the awesome bruise I got! Look at my callouses!!!"
Oct. 15th, 2008 08:11 pm (UTC)
Wow, that sounds like so much fun. That's so awesome that you just went out there and learned something you always wanted to do.
Oct. 17th, 2008 04:44 am (UTC)
It's such a blast! The thing is, I never did want to do trapeze. I actually saw a friend of a friend do it a couple years ago and I was like, "yeah, that's crazy. Why would someone do that?" And here I am! Just goes to show we should always try new things!
Oct. 15th, 2008 08:13 pm (UTC)
Oh my god. There are no words in the English language to express my jealousy. I was supposed to take lessons this summer as well, but my plans fell through at the last minute and I was very upset. I'm so glad you're enjoying it, I can't think of anything I'd like more than to be able to do the same, but until that becomes feasible I'd LOVE to hear as much about this as possible! That video was absolutely amazing and just... guh. So jealous. So cool.
Oct. 17th, 2008 04:45 am (UTC)
I went back in your journal and read that you were going to try that, but never saw that you took the lessons. Ooh, I hope you do get to try it. Definitely let me know if you ever do!

:D I love it sooo much!
Oct. 15th, 2008 08:54 pm (UTC)
This is seriously the coolest thing on the planet.
How could you hide your awesomeness from me?!
Oct. 17th, 2008 04:47 am (UTC)
:D What, my awesomeness wasn't transparent even without me revealing crazy secrets?? ;) You were definitely part of the filter that I created to post about secrets, but then never wound up using! It's the thought that counts..?
Oct. 15th, 2008 08:55 pm (UTC)
WOW! That is amazing! And so not something i'd even considered.
Oct. 17th, 2008 04:49 am (UTC)
Thank you! :) I'm so shocked that my friends were surprised because to me I feel like I've been so transparent because my head has been like TRAPEZETRAPEZETRAPEZETRAPEZEworkTRAPEZETRAPEZEteleveisionTRAPEZE... etc. :)
Oct. 15th, 2008 09:14 pm (UTC)
Holy crap, that's awesome! I'm kind jealous of you're ridiculously awesome hobby xD
Oct. 17th, 2008 04:49 am (UTC)
As you should be! ;) You are so lucky though, you are in NYC and there are just like trapezes all up in NYC. I have to drive 90 minutes!
