You lit the stars up in the night.

Okay.. I think I might be capable of some sort of coherent thought now. *deep breath* United Fan Con was INCREDIBLE. I was definitely expecting to be disappointed in the convention but I was seriously wrong. I was expecting to see like 5 minutes of Bill Mumy while being herded through a line but it wound up being just the opposite.

foreverseenstar and I arrived at 12:30 on Saturday. We'd planned to get there a bit earlier but we were exhausted from our long day in NYC (which will have to be saved for another post). Our first stop was Bill's table. We stopped to look at pictures and CDs and I was overwhelmed because a) I wanted everything, b) I already had more things to get signed than I was allowed because I only had one autograph ticket and wasn't about to pay $25 for another, c) Eileen Mumy, Bill's adorable wife, was quizzing me about sodium ion channels. o_0 She was so chatty and personable and as it turns out she is also pursuing nursing and is taking classes at a community college, just like I am. We bonded over that and before I knew it she was showing us pictures on her camera of Liliana and Seth, who btw have grown up SO MUCH! Holy crap! I still had it in my head that Liliana was like 8 but she is apparently 13 now?!! And Seth is 18 and looking at colleges! Wow, I have been a fan for a long time now...

Anyway, I showed her some of the CDs I had brought with me, including a couple Barnes & Barnes, and she was like, "Ooh, Bill will be so excited to see those especially because you're young and pretty." *blush* Well, whether he was excited or not he did sign my Spazchow CD for me at the suggestion of Eileen. We did super secret covert operation so that we didn't get caught by UFC staff. (There wasn't supposed to be autographing without autograph tickets, which were included one of each bonus guest in your package, or purchased for an additional $25.) He also signed the Space Cases script that foreverseenstar purchased for me from Peter David. :) And for the record, when he first came up to the table my stomach only did a small flip, I did not burst into hysterical tears like I did for Jewel Staite last year. Me FTW. \o/ Very thankful because that would've been even more hugely awkward than it was last year...

When it was time for Peter David, Tracy Scoggins, and Bill's talk we went in and stole seats which were much better than our assigned seats. (It seemed like there were way more seats than people, even the assigned ones, this year.) Now I have always disliked Tracy, with no good reason other than the fact that I was bitter about a fifth season of Babylon 5 without Ivonova, Marcus, and very little Lennier. In fact, I still haven't watched the fifth season. I know, it's pathetic. I own it, too. I have intentions of watching, I just... haven't gotten around. Anyway, so I blamed season five's tragedies on Tracy, so I was determined to continue my hatred of her at UFC. But I couldn't! She was so funny during the talks! I guess I'm going to have to give Lochley a chance now...

Torri was absolutely adorable during her talk. She was all giggly and cute. And she had pigtails! And an orange scarf! And she liked foreverseenstar's purple hair. And she liked the purple hair pieces that she gave her when were in the autograph line. They were both adorable:

It was a long time waiting for autographs but not terrible. I managed to procure a few more Mumy autograph tickets that people didn't want which I was pleased about. At this point I pretty much had his entire music catalog in my purse so it was nice to know I could get more signed. When we got up to his spot on the table Bill was like, "Where have you been?!" *grin* Who knew we would be missed?

After autographs we got in line for the banquet and chatted with Joey, a hardcore Barnes & Barnes fan who I knew from the yahoo group, and we chatted a bit about the band and such. I'm not nearly as... dedicated... to the band as he is, but it was still good to talk to another fan. Oh! Which reminds me... somewhere in between Bill's talk and Torri's talk, Joey and I were talking to Bill about Barnes & Barnes and Bill called Robert Hamier (the other half of B&B) and left very interesting messages on three different phone lines. Yes, I used Bill Mumy's cell phone and left a message for Artie Barnes. o_0

So at the banquet, one of the celebrity guests was seated at each table. We waited and waited speculating who we would get. Eventually it was decided (okay, I might've convinced them) that the Mumy's would be sitting at our table. But unfortunately they didn't come down until right before the cabaret. :( But Eileen did sit with us when they did come down. :)

The cabaret was great! Peter David read the first chapter from his story "Tigerheart" which was still entertaining, even though we heard it once already at Dragon*Con. I will definitely be purchasing that when it comes out. Wendy Padbury, who they actually did wind up seating at our table after a while because they felt bad we didn't have a celebrity, did a very comical Doctor Who reading. She turned out to be quite lovely, even though I don't know who she is because I've only watched the very last season of Doctor Who, as well. She also liked the purple in foreverseenstar's hair. :)

And then Bill came on stage. And I got a bit weepy. I probably would've been much more weepy but Eileen was telling me the meaning behind "With Big Ideas" (which I now have pretty much been listening to on repeat, btw) and I didn't want to turn around and be like OH HAI I AM A BAWLING FOOL BECAUSE I'M SO HAPPY BECAUSE I NEVER THOUGHT I'D GET TO SEE YOUR HUSBAND PLAY LIVE AND THIS MEANS THE WORLD TO ME BECAUSE I'M A HUGE FAN, so yeah, I held it together.

BUT OH MY GOD IT WAS SO GOOD! SO GOOD! Ack, I'm getting all teary eyed thinking about it. He even slipped in a Barnes & Barnes song for Joey and I.

Yes, I am "Lovely Laura". :D And we managed to get him up on stage for an encore, and Eileen started a Fish Heads riot so there was a great sing-a-long. :D

As much as I loved the Fish Heads, I kind of wanted at least one more Mumy song. The set was much much too short, but then again I could've like listened to him play all night. I wanted to ask Eileen if she falls in love with him all over again whenever she hears him play, but I think that would've seemed weird. He was wearing a scarf. I really liked the scarf. Scarves are fantastic.

So maybe the best part of the whole day, maybe the whole weekend, maybe my whole life, followed next. Bill continued the jam session out into the hallway on a piano that was laying around. He and Joey jammed on Barnes & Barnes songs and we did a great sing along of "Party In My Pants", a song which foreverseenstar and I spent the majority of the summer of '97 singing. Twisted, I know.

That's us at the piano. I told you the scarf was fantastic. Okay okay, BUT BEST MOMENT EVAR KIDS:

SINGING THE SPACE CASES THEME SONG WITH BILL MUMY AND PETER DAVID. HOLY SHIT. OMIGOD I KNOW YOU ARE SO JEALOUS. Yes, the video quality is crap. It was super dark and I tried to play with brightness/contrast but it kind of just made it all rainbow-like. Eileen is who grabbed the camera from me, that's her voice. GAH THAT DIDN'T REALLY HAPPEN. HOW DID THAT HAPPEN? BUT IT DID BECAUSE WE HAVE VIDEO. JESUS MURPHY.

When the jam session ended we all parted ways, I think I teased Bill for asking where Connecticut was in relation to where we were, and then we scared the hotel employees in the elevator because we were like DRUNK with giddiness. I probably shouldn't have been driving, but oh well.

Not as much to say about Sunday. I got my photoshoot with Bill, Bill and Tracy gave another talk, and so did Henry Winkler. That's right, THE FONZ. He was an AMAZING speaker, like so so so good. And he is such a sweet man! I couldn't resist not getting a picture with him:

He was so cute. He was all, "Can I put my arm around you? Can I put my arm all the way around you?" OF COURSE YOU CAN. YOU'RE THE FONZ! 'EYYYY. And he told me I was beautiful. *blush*

Nicki Clyne from BSG was there and she was so sweet. She ALSO had a scarf. :) We chatted with her for a bit and got some more pictures before we left. :)

us and PAD

me and my new BFF, Eileen

and with Bill

So yeah, fucking incredible weekend, even if you don't include the fabulous day we had in NYC on Friday. But that will have to be for another post as this has already destroyed your flists, I'm sure. Sorry but posts like this don't get lj-cuts. Later, skaterz.

Y'all seemed to be having fun the entire weekend. And I am glad that you captured the Space Cases sing along. Ariel got to see it.

I am so so so glad that everything wound up working out with UFC and the whole David clan got to come. Ariel and I got to squee over our love for Rent and the OBC, namely Anthony and Adam. :)

Bill and Eileen are wonderful and so are you and Peter! The weekend wouldn't have been as amazing as it was without all of you. :D

Oh my god, Space Cases! I am so totally J. Now I'm going to be singing the theme song ALL DAY. I used to have the biggest crush on Catalina, and then she just HAD to go on Firefly AND Stargate Atlantis? A woman after my heart!
Nov. 7th, 2007 05:17 pm (UTC)
I have scary huge amounts of love for Jewel Staite like you wouldn't believe.
Nov. 7th, 2007 05:25 pm (UTC)
Any sane person would. However, I'm still not used to her role in Atlantis yet. She should be fixing MACHINES not PEOPLE, but it's still good to see her around.
Nov. 7th, 2007 07:15 pm (UTC)
Hey I'm just happy she's not covered in wraith makeup this time around. Did you ever check out the pictures from when I met her last year?
Nov. 15th, 2007 06:18 pm (UTC)

Super fantastic doesn't even begin to describe it. Celebs should wear scarves all the time I think. *nod*
Nov. 7th, 2007 07:58 pm (UTC)
I don't know most of the people you're talking about, but I'm glad you had such a good time!
Nov. 7th, 2007 08:35 pm (UTC)
Yeah, that's why I felt a need to put up IMDB links and such. :)

You know I was just thinking the other day, "I miss shayrena. I wish she would post more." so *huggles*
