Wow, I really don't even know where to start about last night... I guess I will start first off by saying KATE HEWLETT IS SO AWESOME! Humans Anonymous is the greatest play ever and Kate is brilliant and beautiful and funny and my new hero. And now I'll start at the beginning.

foreverseenstar and I managed to get on a slightly earlier train to NYC than we'd expected and got to NYC a little after 5 PM. After standing on various street corners with a pathetic mapquest printout, and going in the wrong direction a few times, we managed to make it to Rockefeller Center. So beautiful! I love NYC at Christmastime because everything is so festive. Sacks Fifth Ave has a bunch of snowflakes on the side of their building that light up in choreography to Carol of the Bells every 20 minutes or so. And of course there's the tree, and then all the stores on 5th Ave. I had to gawk outside Tiffanys for a good few minutes. We wandered around for a good hour or so trying to find food, and eventually settled for some crappy pizza in the Rockefeller Center concourse. It was extremely disappointing, but alas, the only disappointing part of the night.

After our crappy pizza we went to the theatre and got there like an hour early. Heh, we're geeks. So we hung out on the much too tiny benches until they invited us into the lobby to partake in the FREE CANADIAN BEER. Yeah, I mean the free play in itself was awesome but throw in free Molson on top of that? You really can't go wrong. They handed out the program/playbill and foreverseenstar and I were disappointed that Amos Crawley (Sag on "Ready Or Not") wasn't int the production since we knew he was part of the theater company. We had been hoping to see him almost as much as Kate. But yeah, so we seated ourselves in the front row and I set my stockpiled beer at my feet and we waited for the play to start. All they had were 4 chairs, a stool, and 5 music stands and just a couple of key props, so it was very very basic. No stage or anything, just like a loft.

The play was incredible. The entire time I was either laughing to the point of tears or moved to the point of tears. There were so many funny lines, I wish I could remember all of them. If we had gone on Wednesday, I would've so made myself come back for Thursdays show. I wish I had a tape of it or a script or something. It was hilarious. And the actors were so incredibly talented. I was honestly engrossed the entire time. I felt like they were talking to me. There was a few times where I almost answered them outloud because the whole thing just seemed so real. It makes me so mad that there are people like Paris Hilton out there making millions when there was so much freakin' talent in that small performing space last night.

After the show was over all the actors (all 5 of them) hung out and they were all very friendly. I argued with Dan Domingues about which version of The Shining (Kubrick or Miniseries) was superior.

Dan: See I didn't like the miniseries because Weber and DeMornay were too pretty. They weren't believable as a couple.
Me: And I didn't like the Kubrick verion because Shelly Duvall was too hideous to look at.
foreverseenstar: The free beer is making her shallow.
Me: Oh no, I'm this shallow when I'm sober.

Haha. I'm awesome. He was impressed that Kate had such a cult following just from being on one episode of SGA, to which I responded that I was only there because I read her blog. Then we had to explain what a blog was, and give instructions on how to get on myspace. "Go to myspace.com. Click on 'sign up here'. Pretty sure you can figure it out from there." We were so buddy buddy that Kate thought we knew each other. HA! And he is also totally a David Hewlett fan boy. He was like having a contest with foreverseenstar to see if he could name something that she and Watcher from Gateworld didn't know he was in. I was like, "Dude, if David Hewlett is in it, they've seen it and they can tell you the date is was filmed and how it's sitting on their Tivo right now." LOL He's auditioning for a play at the Hartford Stage so hopefully he gets that.

But yeah, Kate was so gracious talking to everyone. And she is so down to earth and friendly. foreverseenstar and I were standing like behind a circle of people who were talking to Kate and she realized we were sort of behind and was like oOOH sorry and stepped back so we were in the circle. She looked at me and was like, "Do I know you from somewhere? Have we met before?" Kate thought she knew me! *fangirl squee* And then she asked me to hold her beer for her. (Shutup, I am a dork.) And she kept apologizing for going over to talk to people she actually stayed with and I was like, "Kate, seriously, stop apologizing. It's okay! Go talk to your friends!" But she always came back to the conversation. She signed a bunch of stuff for people and we chatted about plays and SGA and ADB. Despite having had four beers, I actually think I didn't make a total ass out of myself, which is impressive. Talking with her was lovely. She is lovely. And she had an awesome coat and even awesomer tights.

So around the time that everyone was packing up we hear this kid behind us say "I don't think we've met yet. I'm Amos." So foreverseenstar is like ZOMG! I think that's the Ready or Not kid! to me and I turn and look and I'm like nooo nooo, that can't be him. Then all of a sudden I see the resemblance and I lunge over, completely interrupting his conversation, and say, "We're you on Ready Or Not?!" And he blushes and is like, "Uh yeah, I was. I didn't think anyone outside of Canada ever watched that." And we got a picture with him and his friend (who totally looked like Matt Damon, but Matt Damon in The Talented Mr. Ripley except even nerdier and creepier) like, "Really? Do you have video of this show? What is this show they speak of?" And Amos was like, "I was in an episode of Flash Forward, too." And of course foreverseenstar and I are like, "Oh yeah, what episode?" So he's like o_0 totally not believing we watch that too. Oh sir, we are the masters of Canadian children's programming. But we told him we were from CT and he said he had been to New Haven and I was like, "Dude, that's where my car is parked right now!" And we high-fived over it. He asked our names and invited us to go over to the bar next door with them!! (He's so in love with us.)

We exited the performing space with Kate and her entourage, and we almost went to the bar with them, but decided not to barge in on their fete like that. I told Kate to say hello to Amos for us ("Oooh, the one with the glasses!" *makes glasses motions with fingers around eyes*) and I gave her a hug goodbye! So foreverseenstar totally were like on fangirl cloud nine all the way back to Grand Central (which I directed us expertly to!) but of course I stopped for cake on the way.

Laura, drunk, walks into the bakery.
Man Behind The Counter: "Hello! What can I do for you this evening?"
Me: "I would like some cake."
MBTC: "And what kind of cake would you like?"
Me: *points* "The oreo cake."
MBTC: "Excellent choice. How did you know?"
Me: "I just know how to pick 'em."

Hahaha, I am a great drunk. And it was totally better that we didn't go to the bar because not only did we keep Mr. Amos wanting more (you know he was totally depressed we didn't show up, he was all about having fans from his random Canadian kids TV show) we probably would've never made it home. As it is we didn't get back home til 3AM. Going to work on two hours of sleep really kind of sucks. I was an hour later than I should've been today. I'm in windpants and wearing a nasty sweatshirt when apparently I was supposed to be in business casual and I'm like not able to focus on anything. It's awesome. But it was all so totally worth it. Pictures will follow soon. (EDIT: Pictures are here.) Oh and before I go, just for the record... I am Kate's biggest fan (who was not first a Stargate Fan). And she thought she knew me, which means that our stars are totally aligned. Yup. Last night definitely goes under the category of Great-Ideas-That-Turned-Out-To-Be-Fucking-Amazing-Ideas. Later, skaterz.

See I so totally hope Kate comes to DragonCon. A friend of mine mentioned it to her and she seemed intrigued and excited about it so...and I'm pretty sure we're inviting her...

*is so totally jealous but glad you two had so much fun*
Dec. 8th, 2006 09:52 pm (UTC)
Yeah she definitely seemed excited about it last night, too. But was like, "Don't you need to be invited though? *pout*" So I think she wants to come. She also said that if she could just get another episode of Atlantis under her belt she would feel like she could go to conventions without tagging along with David.
Dec. 8th, 2006 10:59 pm (UTC)
Yeah like she needs to tag along with whatshisface lol. Girl's got her own fandom.

Oh Hewletts, how I love them both.

And we so win at life with Amos Crawley.

Psst...I'm trying to get her invited to D*Con...*big grin*
Dec. 9th, 2006 12:26 am (UTC)
*beams* Can we just rename it Hewlett*Con?
Dec. 9th, 2006 01:42 am (UTC)
LOL!!!! I KNOW!!! :D
Dec. 8th, 2006 11:52 pm (UTC)
Well, I just emailed our SG track director to see if there's any way we can invite Kate because I think there would be a MOB of people to see her!! :D

So here's hoping we can invite her and that she can make it down. I'd be willing to try and chip in for her travel expenses down here and back just to see that she's able to make it!!

And now I need a Kate Hewlett icon!!
Dec. 8th, 2006 10:42 pm (UTC)
it was very very basic. No stage or anything, just like a loft.
Like a loft IN TRANSLATION? Ha!

Her blog = awesome. I totally love her more for that than I did for her SGA guest spot. She sounds so nice, and the play sounds fantastic. Cue laments of "we never get the good stuff over here!"
Dec. 9th, 2006 05:44 pm (UTC)
Her blog is the best. She admitted she's been bad about updating lately because she doesn't think she has anything to talk about. She was like, "I can't just talk about my cats..." To which I said, "Yes you totally can!" C'mon, the Rufaroller was classic.

Ironically in the play she was a very excentric woman who is in loves her "baby" aka her cat Charlie. :)

Great report. Don't know if I'll ever get around to writing mine up.

I went to the bar after the show and talked to Amos for a bit. Did you know that Amos was Patrick McKenna's son Randy on 7 episodes of "Traders"? That's where he first met David Hewlett. I knew he looked familiar to me! Or maybe he just has that kind of face. Now I have to re-watch season 3 and 4 and check him out.

And that guy that looked like Matt Damon? Turns out he lived in Hawaii for over 12 years. That's longer than I did, and my family's from there. He and Dan and Dustin Olson (Arden in the play) were having a discussion about languages and I couldn't help butt in because I love that topic, even though I speak nothing but English myself. I think I impressed Dan when I told him I knew his name was Portuguese and not Spanish. Or not. I impressed myself though.

I gave Kate one of my "MAGIC" club cards. Couldn't help myself. If I ever meet David Hewlett and Kate's given the card to him, he'll probably run screaming (a girly scream?) in the other direction.

It was a wonderful play and Kate is a wonderful observer and communicator.

Yeah, we definitely figured it out earlier today about the Traders thing.

Here's hoping they both come to D*Con!!

Hello! Here via the link in the SGA newsletter, and I just wanted to thank you for your report. Besides being informative, it was also a lot of fun to read. :-)

Oh, and I have to ask, state of body = PERT???
Dec. 10th, 2006 08:28 pm (UTC)
Thanks! Glad I can entertain.

I work at a marketing research firm called PERT Survey Research. Totally unrelated to the shampoo in every way.
Dec. 11th, 2006 05:12 am (UTC)
Ahahahaha!!! I was curious because I work for the company that bought Pert from P&G this year. LOL
Dec. 13th, 2006 04:11 am (UTC)
Man, if I got to hold her beer, there would have been squeeing later, too.
Dec. 13th, 2006 02:42 pm (UTC)
I was seriously standing there with this ZOMG! look on my face trying to to squee right in front of Kate. *such a huge dork*

But PS - Love the icon!
