Taye Diggs Joins "Grey's Anatomy" Spinoff

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Taye Diggs will star opposite Kate Walsh in ABC's potential spinoff from hit medical drama "Grey's Anatomy."

The show will test the waters as a back-door pilot, an expanded two-hour episode of "Grey's" slated to air in May. It will center on neonatal surgeon Addison Shepherd (Walsh), a character who has enjoyed a strong following from fans since she was introduced at the end of the hot surgical drama's first season.

It is understood that the back-door pilot episode will feature Shepherd on the verge of leaving Seattle Grace, a scenario that will be triggered if ABC goes with the spinoff for next season. There were no details on the character Diggs will play.

"Grey's" creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes is writing the episode and is expected to shepherd the potential series. Meanwhile, Rhimes' other ABC pilot, about female journalists, has been pushed to a summer production start.

Diggs' casting in the "Gray" spinoff stems from a new talent holding deal he recently signed with ABC TV Studio, where "Grey's Anatomy" is based. He starred in two drama series for the studio, "Kevin Hill" for UPN and "Day Break" for ABC.

I guess this is really happening. I'll give it a shot, especially if Shonda is behind it. I like Taye Diggs. We shall see.

Just got back from my court date for my traffic ticket (running a stop sign). Got off with a charitable contribution so it doesn't go on my record. Win! That makes out of the maybe 8 times I've been pulled over, only one has resulted in a ticket that's gone on my record. (I'm probably totally jinxing myself, but so far I pwn at getting out of tickets.) Sitting in court is sucky (especially when you forget your book to read!) but it's worth it to not have something reported to your insurance.

But apparently my disappearance from work (even though I sent out an email saying where I would be and that I'd be late) cause quite a tizzy. At least with Gaz. Who then sent foreverseenstar into a panic. Oh guys. At least I know people would care/notice if I went missing.

Okay, my inbox is full and I've got work to do. Later, skaterz.

Yeah, that spinoff actually sounds semi-interesting. I'd miss Addison on Grey's, though. She was one of my favorite characters.

Me, too. I think the cast just works so freakin' well as it is. I hate to break up a good thing.

I'm a big fan of the mantra "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

But I'll try to keep an open mind. In the meantime I'm too freakin' worried about tonight's episode.

Well, seeing how I'm not the biggest Meredith enthusiast, I'm not too concerned. But it looks like we're at least in store for some good drama.

I think a piece of me might die inside if we lose Meredith. :-/

I don't think you have anything to worry about. I would bet pretty much anything that she won't die. It's not Grey's Anatomy with Meredith.

Especially since the episode is entitled "Some Kind Of Miracle". :P

That's exactly the way I see it, even though I am still very skeptical about the whole thing. I really hope this is going to work out and if not Addison should return to Seattle asap ;)

Amen! I HATED her at first because she was so freakin' evil, but the writers have done SUCH an awesome job of making her a likeable character now. It's amazing.

Ha! Pun. Although, is her name still Shepherd?

If this happens, I'll give it a try, as well. I haven't been all that fond of GA recently, but that's mainly because of certain feelings I have about certain characters. The journalist thing sounds like it's got potential, as well? Rhimes is going to be busy. *g*

Definitely, because she has that show coming out starring Denny, too, I think.

I hope this doesn't mean she'll be writing even FEWER Grey's episodes than she already was, because hers are definitely the best.
